Hello all!
I just finished reading, The Vernon Touch, by Genii/Kaufman and what a wonderful book this is! I highly recommend this book to all magicians.

Through his monthly column, The Vernon Touch, the Professor makes constant mentions of the classics in magic as recommended reading; Sachs, Hoffman, Maskelyne & Devant, etc., etc..

As I have not read any of those books, I was wondering whether these classics would still be worthy of reading today. How dated is the material contained in these books and what can today's magicians reap from them? Having read several of today's modern treatises of our art, I was wondering if I should take the leap back in time and invest in studying these books. Thank you!

Roberto

? reading is entertaining ... kind of - much more useful to try out his advice and test his observations. It's still important to motivate ones actions (especially to set up false transfers) and to handle props consistently so's not to arouse suspicion when the trickery happens. Same for analyzing routines and presentations to find what works for you and your audiences. IMHO The columns are still relevant.
