Snap Illusion - bad experience conclusion...

as promised, the conclusion of my friends experience with the received illusion..... (Richard, maybe you can move it in my original thread).
-----------------------
Unfortunately I have to get in touch with you again for some unpleasant reason and by the way I already promised to give you further informations in this case! Since I've been on tour I had a look at the illusion only now. Sadly I was surprised in a bad way: the illusion is ragged, it looks like it had been stored someplace for a long time, since it is full of real spider webs (and I mean, not the painted ones....) . But the biggest problem is that the manufacture is terrible, the whole illusion looks as though it had already been used, with other words it doesn't look new. Not only that the deliverance of the illusion, I had ordered on the 28th April 2008 at the company Snap/illusions, took 3 months longer than promised and not only that we had been promised and put off that the illusion is already almost finished and actually they just needed to send it - now after finally receiving it, the whole item is shocking. The illusion does not equate our order and by the way it looked like it had been brought out of a stock and worn out. It is a dilettante completion. In one of the emails, one of the excuses for still not having the illusion finished was that they were still looking for a very special barbed wire. Awkwardly, there is no such barbed wire in the whole illusion-package, nothing fixed as promised and so on. I will asked myself what does Snap means by individual custom created ?? Nothing at all is costum made! The whole illusion is a fraud and nothing confirms our agreements and consequently I can not use the illusion in this way. I would have to invest a lot of money into it to be able to use it. The illusion is good for nothing and therefore I insisted on a refund - hopeless! Now I payed for an illusion, which looks totaly worn out and in which I have to invest a lot to be able to use. by the way let mention that in the past I was very satisified and happy with other illusions from other illusionsbuilders like Doug Malloy or Gerry Frenette vom Canada! Snap Illusion - NEVER AGAIN!!! !!!! Sincerely, Dr. Roman Szeliga

Thank you for updating us. Maybe now guys will start to realize this is not a person to deal with in any form.
I suggest if you bought it through ebay that you file a complaint and let it be known what is going on with this firm.

There is no excuse for not making delivery dates on a consistent basis. I always estimate high and get it out earlier. I realize things happen but when the prop is not of a useable quality and late that adds insult to injury. And full time pros get first priority. But sometimes pros stack on top of pros and you have to do what you can. But you never promise what you cannot deliver. I have two orders that I have busted my fingers to get out in time. One order was lost by UPS and I remade the bouquet today to get it out. There is nothing one can do about that.
I am glad that you have good luck with them but from what I have gathered in various source you are the exception not the rule.
Richard

Because of their low eBay DSRs they will be suspending from selling on that venue.
They threw up a load of thirty day listings seeing this in the offing because eBay will not remove existing auctions even though the seller is no longer permitted to list any more new ones.
Apparently a last gasp effort to maintain a presence on eBay but it is only a short stay of execution.
How long will it take to get my custom created illusion?
Snap Illusions has the fastest turnaround time for custom created illusions, some builders can take up to 2 years to build a custom created illusion, but at SNAP ILLUSIONS, most of our custom created illusions and props take approximately 8 weeks. We get your custom created illusion to you in a "SNAP"

Mr. Stott, I realize you must be grieving since the most famous inhabitant of Romney Marsh died the other day, however please provide some evidence for your statements.
RK, You need only take a look at their DSRs and review eBay policy about what happens when ANY DSR falls below 4.1.
Some one taking umbrage over this as they did when the Austrian performer posted his beef?
If they are uncomfortable with the facts simply delete my post.
To ensure a minimum performance standard from all sellers, eBay requires sellers to maintain at least a 4.3 average for each DSR (Item as described, Communication, Shipping time, and Shipping and handling charges).
*
Sellers with one or more DSR below 4.3 may be subject to lowered standing in search results. *
Sellers with one or more DSRs below 4.1 will be restricted from listing until their DSRs improve.
EBAY SELLER PERFORMANCE POLICY
Yes, my exit from Romney Marsh was unexpected but my sexton, Mr. Miggs, has things well in hand at the vicarage. I am currently enjoying a fling at Richmond Castle with Anne Boleyn

Glad to hear it!
What do you think the chances are that he has also read these postings and sent the email to placate you?
I really hope that you receive it as promised as you have placed both your trust and monies in this outfit.
If these postings result in you finally taking delivery of your illusion then these efforts are a success.
However, along with some other miscreants, there is a quantum leap between the sayin and the doin.
Best of luck to you.

I am so proud to tell everyone that I have received my illusion from snap and it is perfect . This is the second order and I must say they do a fantastic job . You see what happened is they say eight to ten weeks so if u wait u will be pleasently surprised with the reults. I must admit that reading these post just added to the anxiety but patience and perhaps these post get u what I can only describe as a fantastic deal and quality illusion

I wish I had done some research before placing my order. I ordered the sub trunk in mid March and paid through Paypal, although it hasn't been as long as some of the other posts, I feel like I am being ignored. Initially all my questions were answered and I even got a great deal on the whole thing. Several weeks ago, I contacted them to find out what the status was, and finally someone responded on May 13th saying that the grandfather was in the hospital and that my trunk should be completed at the end of next week (week ending May 23). Ever since then, I call, leave messages, send emails, and no one responds. If the trunk isn't completed...that's fine, but at least respond to your customers and reassure them that you haven't forgotten them and that it is being worked on. I don't know if I should contact one of our many lawyers in the family or what. But this is really irritating because it seems like they don't care. And I actually was looking to ordering something else after i received my first order. Just really dissapointed in their customer service...hopefully that will be all.

Dany, I hope you get this resolved. I had posted a lengthy discourse how persons can pursue getting their props or monies from this company on the Green Monster. This was due to a customer (a deaf/mute gentleman) asking how to do it as he was getting no where. It was deleted.
I wrote a very sincere and honest PM to a moderator asking why when so many people have been hurt are we not allowed to post on this subject? Why must people continue to get stung and find out only after the fact. You will find absoloutely nothing negative on that forum about them. Is this "magicians helping magicians"?
BTW, Kevin Ridgeway noted that he drove by their shop and they were moved. Later, Mr. Moyer posted that they had to move due to the fact that large semi trucks could not naviagate to their loading dock in the area they were located.
Maybe, I suppose it very hard to load out those death drills.

Yeah... but did Moyer post the NEW address of the shop?
BTW... did he think we'd believe that he just added a 500O sq ft addition only to dump the location a year later? LOL
I know what you mean about the Magic Crap-Eh protecting Snap. Steve seems to want to prevent anyone from knowing about Snaps practices. There's some real help for magicians I tells ya! Ha!

Guys..I'm really hoping that they're gonna come through. They have been communicating with me, and the last email I got from them was yesterday fron Tawni saying that the box is complete and they're waiting for the ATA case which should be coming next week. And the email I sent them was yesterday. So I'm hoping that they're back on track. I will keep you posted.

HELLO,
I HAVE BEEN PROFESSIONAL MAGICIAN IN CHILE FOR 30 YEARS. I HAVE BEEN ORDERING MAGIC AND ILLUSIONS TO DIFFERENT DEALERS AND BUILDERS, SPECIALLY FROM U.S.A. ALL THIS YEARS AND NEVER, EVER HAD THIS PROBLEMS IN THE PAST.
I AM SORRY I DIDN'T FIND THIS THREAD BEFORE AS I HAVE HAD ALL THE SAME PROBLEMS TOLD IN HERE.
IN DECEMBER 2008 I PLACED AN ORDER FOR 2 ILLUSIONS TO SNAP ILLUSIONS, I WAS TOLD BY TAWNI THEY WOULD BE READY IN 8 OR 10 WEEKS. I PAID IN FULL THROUGH PAYPAL.
BEFORE PLACING THE ORDER OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS COMMUNICATING WITH THEM THROUGH TAWNI, THEY EVEN ASKED SOME DETAILS I WANTED FOR MY ILLUSIONS. THEY ANSWERED EVERY QUESTION VERY FAST, AND EVEN WERE VERY HELPFUL WHEN I HAD TECHNICAL PROBLEMS WITH THE PAYPAL SYSTEM.
AFTER 10 WEEKS AND NOT HEARING FROM THEM I WROTE TO ENQUIRE ABOUT MY ORDER, AND HERE IS WHEN THE PROBLEMS STARTED. FIRST THEY NEVER ANSWERED MY CALLS. I SENT MANY MAILS, SOME WERE NEVER ANSWERED AND SOME CAME WITH APOLOGIES AND EXCUSES. I TRUSTED THEM. I KNOW NOW I WAS BEING VERY NAIVE.
ALL THIS HAPPENED UNTIL APRIL, AND IT IS THEN THAT I FOUND THIS THREAD AND DISCOVERED THAT THEY DID THIS ALL THE TIME. I WROTE THEM, AGAIN WITH NO ANSWER, SO IN MAY 6, 2009 I WROTE BACK TELLING THEM I WAS GOING TO POST IN HERE, I GOT A FAST REPLY, EXPLAINING THE WHY OF THE DELAYS AND THAT THEY WERE AN HONEST COMPANY, AND THAT IT WAS GOING TO BE READY IN 2 WEEKS. I ANSWERED THAT I WOULD WAIT AS I DIDN'T MY IT WASN'T MY INTENTION TO HARM THEIR BUSINESS.
ACTUALLY I WAITED MORE THAN THAT, IN MAY 26, 2009 I SENT AN EMAIL TO ASK ABOUT MY ORDER AGAIN, I HAVE RESENT IT 4 TIMES, WITH NO ANSWER TO ANY OF THEM.
AS YOU CAN SEE, THEY WERE VERY FAST IN TAKING MY MONEY BUT VERY SLOW AFTER THAT. THEY SAY THEY ARE AN HONEST COMPANY, BUT THEN THE QUESTION IS WHY DO THEY DO ALL THIS? AND WHETHER THEY REALLY CAN, OR WANT, TO DELIVER? AND WHEN WILL THIS HAPPEN?
I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO AS THE MONEY I PAID WASN'T LOW, BESIDES DOLLAR FOR US IS EXPENSIVE.
I PLACED THE ORDER WITH TIME TO BE ABLE TO PREPARE AND PRACTICE THEM ENOUGH FOR OUR NEW SHOW, AS YOU CAN SEE THIS WON'T HAPPEN. EVEN THOUGH I HAD PROMISED THEM. THE SHOW STARTED IN MAY.
DO THEY KNOW HOW MUCH BUSINESS HAVE THEY LOST FOR ALL THIS. 2 MAGICIANS THAT I KNOW STOPPED THEIR ORDER AFTER MY PROBLEMS WITH SNAP ILLUSIONS. IN FACT I HAD 3 MORE ILLUSIONS I WAS GOING TO PURCHASE AFTER THIS 2 CAME. OF COURSE THIS WON'T HAPPEN.
SORRY FOR BORING YOU WITH ALL THIS. I DON'T LIKE TO SAY ANYTHING BAD ABOUT PEOPLE, BUT I DON'T WANT OTHER MAGICIANS TO HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEMS.
SORRY ALSO, FOR MY ENGLISH, AS IT IS NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE.
THANKS FOR YOUR ATTENTION.
BE WITH GOD.

Gerado,
Your reasons for posting this information are correct. I think we should make others aware of problems with suppliers.
I realize that there is often two sides of every problem. I have been involved in a few of those myself over the years. But this seems to be a reaccuring problem with this firm.
Thankfully, this forum is one of the very few where we can warn others of these problems.

Richard,
Thanks for your reply. I agree with you in that ther is always two sides in every problem.
I can understand a delay. That is why I waited all this time (more than 6 months), but this is too much, besides it is very difficult to communicate with them, and the few times they answer, it always with different excuses, so costumers don't know what to believe.
I have written them again, but haven't got any answer so far.
Be with god.

I wish this thread could stop which would mean these problems have been resolved or stopped with Snap.
But until they do, I am so thankfull that this thread has continued as maybe it has saved a few guys from the aggravation of these transactions.

Yes Thanks Richard for letting this thread continue. To bad the Magic Crap Eh doesn't have the same backbone. A lot of magicians would have been saved from the hassle of getting ripped of.

I have waited 1 year and 9 month for my Smoke Chamber from Snap illusions. As everybody else I got promised them to be finished in 8-10 weeks.
I took them 1 year and 4 days to build my Spiker illusion, and it wast worth it. The illusion is... crap It always falling apart, wight 130 kg, and it can hold 2 sumo-wrestlers.
The same problem for me whit customers service, they are nice in the beginning and now, never reply on emails and so on...
I dont like to talk bad about others, and as Gerardo said, I want to help other magicans. So try to avoid doing business whit snap.
Best Regards

I did get it, it wasn't that bad, but it wasn't that great. And unfortunately giving them my height and weight for them to "custom make" my trunk was for no good reason. Not that I'm huge, I'm 5'9", 230lbs, and it's just too tight for me. If anyone wants an used sub trunk, I have it, no need to wait 6-7 months.

I paid for a Crystal Casket in October 2008. It cost me $1,100.00 and now a year later I still HAVE NOT RECEIVED this item despite numerous phone calls and numerous e mails to Snap Illusions. Snap Illusions have chosen to have absolute minimum ( practically non existent ) communication with me. I have now sought legal advice and I am in a strong position due to records of my payment and correspondence that I have received from Snap with false promises of delivery and the item being "ALMOST READY'. To strengthen my case my solicitor has asked me to obtain references from other dissatisfied customers who have had similar or bad experiences with Snap Illusions. If you are one of these people, please help me as it is unfair to allow a company like this to trade in this mann

Yes, I believe you are. I do not have time right now, but later this evening, I plan to relate my experience with Snap Illusions, which is currently ongoing. How the matter will turn out, after finding this thread, it is hard to say. Obviously, I will keep this thread updated with the progress on the reception of the illusion. I have had a good relationship with Tawni, but it seems my experience has, more and more, resembled the experience of others on this thread as time has gone by (and as delivery dates / promises for delivery dates have come and gone). I am currently waiting for an email reply with a delivery date promise for a thin-model illusion that I ordered on 6/11/09. Scroll on for the full story.

I ordered a thin-model sawing illusion for $1,495.00 from Snap Illusions on 6/11/09.
I first began asking questions about the illusion to Tawni in customer service back in February of 2009. Not only were all of my emails answered, often only several minutes after I sent them, but there were times when Snap Illusions contacted me, just asking if I had any more questions.
After much debating, I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase on 6/11/09. By that time, I had kept an extensive, ongoing dialogue with Tawni in customer service in regards to the customization of the illusion for the height of my assistant, the requested color, how I would like it to operate, etc. I was repeatedly assured that all of my customization needs would be met.
When I placed my order, Tawni was more than helpful- directly emailing me a PayPal link and asking if I needed instructions on how to send money via PayPal, aside from assuring me several days later that the estimated production time was approximately 8 weeks. Tawni said she would let me know if the illusion was done sooner. That was June 18th.
On July 9th, I sent an email to Tawni in regards to the status of the illusion’s construction. It received no response. On July 13th, I sent an email to Tawni after I noticed her uncle had passed away (seeing his picture posted on the website), giving my condolences. I sent another email on July 15th and called Snap Illusions on the telephone twice, telling Tawni I had not heard anything and was a bit concerned. Tawni replied on July 15th, telling me construction of the illusion was almost finished. It was then going to be painted. Tawni apologized for being hard to get a hold of.
On July 16th, I replied to Tawni and explained that because the buying experience had been so cordial, I was considering ordering 3 more illusions. Tawni replied July 17th and offered me a special for 20% off the price plus free shipping. The total was $4,912.00. I explained on July 18th that I would place the order as soon as I received my thin-model sawing.
On July 19th, the entire Snap Illusions Ebay account was deleted. I immediately emailed Tawni, asking what had happened and indicating my concern. She assured me that there was nothing to worry about, and that Snap Illusions was simply trying to gauge which illusions sold best on Ebay. She said that those particular best-selling illusions would be put back up, since Snap Illusions was going to be using Ebay as more of a promotional platform.
On August 6th, 8 weeks to the day of placing my order, I sent Tawni an email asking what day I could expect delivery. I received no response. I sent a second email on August 12th, one week later. I received no response. On August 18th I sent a third email. Tawni replied on August 18th, indicating that another family member had died. She assured me that things would be getting back on track and apologized for her late reply.
On August 20th I sent condolences. In that email I also asked if there was an estimate concerning how long it would be before the illusion shipped. I received no response. I sent a second email on August 27th, inquiring when the illusion would be shipped. I received no response. I sent a third email on September 3rd, with an inquiry on the status of the illusion. I received no response. I sent a fourth email on September 5th, to which Tawni replied the same day, indicating she was out of town for Labor Day, but would email me on September 8th and let me know when the illusion would ship. I thanked Tawni on the 6th.
After receiving no email on September 8th, I sent Tawni an email asking for the shipping date the evening of that same day. I received no response. I sent a second email on September 10th, asking for the shipping date. I received no response. I sent a third email on September 14th asking for the shipping date. I received no response. I sent a fourth email on September 16th, indicating my growing concern in regards to the transaction. Tawni replied on September 17th, and told me the illusion would ship in approximately 2 weeks. She apologized for the delay, and told me she had been out of town.
On October 7th, a day shy of three weeks since her last email, I asked Tawni for the day of estimated delivery with the UPS shipping code, so I could be available to receive the illusion. I received no response. On October 11th I sent a second email, inquiring if the first email was received. I received no response. On October 12th I sent a third email, again asking for the date of delivery. I received no response. On October 15th, I sent a fourth email, indicating that I was seriously concerned about the transaction and that I desired either a UPS shipping code or a date of delivery in the email reply. I received no response. On October 29th I sent a fifth email, indicating my surprise that even though I planned to order an additional $5,000 worth of illusions, I was not receiving any response from Snap Illusions. I indicated that the issue would “be taken to a higher level” if a lack of communication continued. Tawni replied on October 30th, stating that she was very ill and had been in the hospital. She said she would email me on Monday, November 2nd, with the shipping date of the thin model sawing.
After receiving no email on November 2nd, I sent Tawni an email asking for the shipping date the evening of that same day. I received no response. I sent a second email on November 4th, stating that I could not wait indefinitely for a shipping date on my illusion. I stated that if I did not receive a reply with a shipping date, that I was going to take the issue to a higher level with the company. That was at 11:48 a.m. this morning.
I have received no response.
Be certain that I will keep this thread updated in regards to this transaction. I will keep everyone here informed as to whether or not I receive my illusion.

I believe they are based in Indiana. I would file a complaint as well as open disputes with Paypal.

MagicInMidwest ..you basically have the same story as I did. They're customer service is terrible, they have no respect for their customers concerns. She was responsive when i first placed my order getting back to me within minutes of receiving my order/questions. After that, it was all downhill. Emails after emails, calls after calls, no responses. There was also a thread in the Magic Cafe about Snap, it was basically customers complaining and sharing their stories. I posted my story and how terrible they were and soon enough the owner (Jack) emailed me giving excuse after excuse, then the next day the entire thread was deleted from the Cafe. After I finally received my "partial" order, it wasn't to my liking. It didn't fit me, even after I told her my height and weight. So this "custom" trunk really is a standard trunk. And I say "partial" only because I also ordered an ATA case, which I still have not received. It Snap was local, I would have gone their and kicked their asses by now. I would NEVER order anything from them again, and wouldn't even recommend them to my worst enemy.
Such horrible business ethics, they are complete liars, their workmanship is low class. The only thing they're good at is taking your money, no delays there.
And the thing with Paypal is that you only have 45 days to raise a concern. Well...it'll be way past that until you realize you're getting screwed. So even though Paypal is safe, after the 45 days there's nothing you can do.
