Popular Mechanics is an American magazine devoted to science and technology. It was first published January 11, 1902 by H. H. Windsor, and has been owned since 1958 by the Hearst Corporation.
It published many magic tricks over the years including those from:
- Blackstone (August and September 1935)
- Cardini (December 1935)
- Jack Gwynne (October 1936)
- Chester Morris (October 1947)
Magicians where not happy at the time when they started publishing magic tricks in the 1910s. Some were reprinted in Sphinx in 1913.
Over they years they would lapse into more detailed exposures and again in 1928, John Mulholland and Harlan Tarbell visit the magazine and got them to agree again to have magic articles reviewed by the SAM before publishing.
156 of the tricks were republished by Popular Mechanics in the book "The Boy Magician" in 2008.
