Prof. Augustus Karlemann (aka Karlmann), the originator of the 20th century rope tie, was an active member in The Society of American Magicians and a collector.
He was on the staff of the Boy Magician magazine.[1]
Performance
Karlemann first appearance on stage was on April 8, 1905 at the Empire Hall, Canarsie in New York City performing a thirty minute magic act. Opening with the production of flowers from the Cornucopia; eight minutes of handkerchiefs, consisting of producing four handkerchiefs which multiply into twenty; the color change through the paper tube; passing the handkerchiefs through the second time, which change into three flags; the twentieth century handkerchief trick; the soup plate, and taking three handkerchiefs which change into large American flag.
