S.A.M. Assembly No. 8
SAM Assembly No. 8 is the St. Louis chapter of the Society of American Magicians.[1]
Original charter 1921
The St. Louis Society of Magicians, which preceded the Society of American Magicians, decided in 1921 to become associated with the Society of American Magicians.[2] In November 1921, they were given their charter. Six of the nine charter members were:
- 862 Alphonse A. Erblang
- 863 Robert G. Williams
- 864 William L. Mayer
- 865 Paul S. "LePaul" Braden
- 866 Malcolm P. Kassell
- 867 William J. Heaven
Re-charter 1946
This original chapter eventually died out and in the late 1930's efforts began to reactivate the Assembly. The process of re-charter took approximately seven years with the re-charter happening in 1946.[3]
Awards
The "Silver Bowl" is awarded at the SAM national conventions for the greatest percentage membership increase for Assemblies with 36 to 50 members. Assembly 8 was awarded it in 1966,1967,1968,1969,1970,1971, and 1976.

Newsletter
The Sam-A-Gram is the official newsletter of Assembly No. 8 and editors have included Trudy Monti, Harry Monti, Steve Corbitt, John Apperson, Larry Minth and Ted Schnarre.
Events
Assembly No. 8, along with IBM Ring One, staff a regional magic convention, the Midwest Magic Jubilee.
