Jack Potter (1903 - October 10, 1978) born in Manchester, England was professionally a sound engineer of the British Broadcasting Company. He is most known for his compilation of magic tricks known as the Potter Index.

He became seriously interested in magic in 1934 and was nn honorary life member of Southport Magic Circle, a member of the British IBM Ring 25, and was the book, magazine and trick reviewer for The Budget

Potter index nearly 100,000 tricks and routines by categories and published them in his "Potter's Bar" column in both The Linking Ring and The Budget.
