Westgate Bowl Production, as described in 1941 ads, starts with something wrapped in a foulard on a very thin disc. It proves to be a really empty lamp shade. Merely pulling the foulard up thru it results in appearance of bowl when shade is lifted.[1]

Sterling Magic circa 1942

Invented by Howard Westgate in 1939 when he was still a high school student. It was later adapted by Aldini so that it could be performed without an assistant.[2]
