Elbert M. Morey (fl. 1900-1920) was a sleight-of-hand artist out of Detroit, Michigan.

Biography

Morey received his early education at the Kenyon Military Academy, Cambier, Ohio, and the Culver Military Academy, Culver, Indiana. Then he took a two year course of technical training at the Detroit University School, with a plan on studying mining engineering. But instead he applied himself to advertising as a profession and joined a Detroit advertising firm.

Mr. Morey first began to practice sleight-of-hand when quite young and became accomplished at manipulating cards, coins and balls, as well as thimbles, pencils, match boxes, cigars, and eggs.[1]

In a few issues of the Sphinx, he wrote a series called "Morey's Column". [2]

He enjoyed a wide acquaintance among professionals and was a personal friend of Nate Leipzig. He took lessons from Leipzig and acted as his assistant on several occasions.[3]
