Gil Leaney (1921-1993) was a behind the scenes British magic expert.[1]


Biography

Leaney toured with the Wilfred Pickles' "Have A Go" quiz shows on B.B.C. radio, and considered himself the first "radio" magician

His early training was as a draughtsman and in 1946 he began working with Jack Hughes when Harry Stanley opened his Unique Magic Studio in London's Soho. In the early fifties he left Stanley to start his own business called "Magic to Design".

Leaney was a consultant and illusion builder for Paul Daniels. He also served as stage manager for the Magic Circle Shows.[2]


Awards and honors

  • 1986 Creative Fellowship from the Academy of Magical Arts
  • 1990 Maskelyne Award is for "Services to British Magic" from the Magic Circle
  • Honorary Vice-President of the Magic Circle.
