Appearing Elephant is a stage illusion, devised by Gustave Fasola in the late 1920s, in which an elephant suddenly appears inside a large box.

Howard Thurston bought the idea from Fasola and had it constructed, but never ended up performing it because of the difficulties in traveling with such a large animal.

Doug Henning presented the effect during his 1976 television special.
