Bill Whittington started performing close-up magic professionally beginning in 1984, specializing in the Cups & Balls and rope effects.

A book collector, he managed The Update, a newsletter sent out to members of a magic co-op keeping up to date on the latest in magic publishing beginning in 1982.

Whittington would reopened "Golden Gate Magic Company" in 1985 as a mail order company, first with Bob Koch from Chicago (until 1988) and then with Paul Chosse (starting in 1989).[1]
