There are generally two types of books when it comes to dealing with Magic for Children. One type of book contains magic tricks designed to be appealing for audiences of children. The other type of book deals mainly with the business of magic, and general principles for entertaining audiences of children. Of course, most books contain some of each, but be aware that if you are looking for magic tricks you can perform, these may not appear in all books on children's magic.

One of the first books on performing magic for children was Seeing Truth: Object Lessons with Magical and Mechanical Effects by Rev. Charles H. Woolston. William Larsen Sr. and T. Page Wright published a pamphlet called The L.W.Mysteries for Childen in 1928. The first hardbound book on the subject was Entertaining Children with Magic by Eddie Clever.

Some more current books include those by David Ginn: Children Laugh Louder, Colorful Magic, Kidbiz, Magic and Monsters for Kids I Love, The Only 3 Ways to Book Your Show, Laughter Legacy
