Camelard or Cameliard is a variation on the name of the fabled Camelot, the castle of King Arthur and, of course, Merlin. The early writers of the Arthurian tales say that Caerleon (Caerleon-on-Usk) was Arthur's home. The name "Camelot" was later provided by French poet, Chretien de Troyes, in his "Le Chevalier de la charrette" (that is, "Knight of the Cart" who is the famous Lancelot). de Troyes writes that Arthur held court at Camelot in the region of Caerleon.
