Richard "Dick" Christian (1937-2011), Cdr., U.S. Navy, (Ret.), performed as "Christian the Magician" and was known as an authority on mentalism and Book Tests.

Biography

Christian earned a degree in Business Administration from Penn State University and attended the Naval Post Graduate School in Monterey, California. A 20-year naval officer and recipient of a Bronze Star, he had command of the USS Claud Jones, out of Pearl Harbor and the USS John Paul Jones, out of Long Beach, which saw action off the coast of Vietnam.

His father was a ventriloquist and part-time vaudeville performer.

Upon retirement, he transformed his hobby of magic into a second career as "Christian the Magician". He also lectured at federal intelligence and law enforcement agencies on deception.

He founded the Christian and Company Entertainment, booking different acts for many occasions. As Christian the Magician, he performed at the White House, entertained the U.S. Supreme Court, taught at the Smithsonian, and appeared at and Hollywood's Magic Castle. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians Ring 50 in Washington D.C.

Christian was in the process of writing the "Encyclopedia of Forcing Books and Book Tests", which he has been compiling for years, with the hopes of publication by the end of 2011.

He passed away following a four month battle with a rare blood disorder.[1][2]
