Dick Swanson (1888-1953) was a locksmith and magic dealer.

Biography

Swanson began his magic career in 1906, traveled as a circus performer and in road shows until World War I. In the 1900s, he also prospected for gold near Nome and did shows in the Alaska territory.

He was later employed in the Seattle shipyards before founding his locksmith business. Along with his wife Mabel and his brother Harry, he operated a combination key, gun, and novelty shop. The "Swanson's Sorcery Magic Shop" which was located in the back room.[1][2][3]

He was a member of IBM, the SAM, and PCAM.

He was a confidant of many professionals including Virgil, Blackstone, Dante, Gwynne, Calvert, and Tarbell.[4]

Swanson died of a heart attack in his shop, after he helped stage a magic show at the Seattle Magic Ring's annual ladies'night the night before. [5]

Syd Brockman would buy the Swanson's Sorcery around 1958.
