Edwin Fay Rice (1849-1919) was a Boston area magician who performed from 1874 until 1885.
Biography
His interest in the magic art was due in part to seeing Jonathan Harrington. While working for the Daily Times in Boston in 1870, he met William Henry Young. Professor Young arranged engaged Rice as assistant for his southern tour. In Lynchburg, Virginia, in Holcombe Hall, Young allowed Rice to make his first public appearance, opening for him at a matinee. His first full performance came in Boston, soon after Rice passed away in 1874 during Fourth of July activities. His success was such that he was engaged by the city annually until 1885.
He retired in 1885 and was appointed to a position in the Boston Public Library. [1]
Rice was a member of the Society of American Magicians, the Conjurers' Club, and was one of the founders of the Mystic Circle of Boston.[2][3]
