With the help of Loring Campbell he got into the field of magic apparatus manufacturing and started the The Haenchen Magic Company. His best selling trick was the Broken and Restored Plate, of which he made over 700 through the years.

In 1977, he sold the company to the Viking Magic Company which formed a separate Viking-Haenchen Magic Co.

Fred built a home at Kingston, Oklahoma and retired from full-time manufacturing.
