Joe Borrello (c.1890-1949), primarily known as a comedian, was president of I.B.M. Ring 27 in New Orleans for many years.
Biography
Borrello came to New Orleans from Italy at the age of 17 months and grew up in the theatrical district of the city.
Before becoming known as a magician, he was primarily a comedian. Borrello's early appearances on the stage took him to some of the the largest theaters in the country between 1909 and the late 1920s, performing sometimes as Gus Taynor.
After leaving vaudeville, he turned to radio performing as Tony Bacigalupi. With his son, Joe Borrello, Jr., they played in New Orleans theaters doing impersonations of Charlie Chaplin and Jackie Coogan.
He was well known throughout the country by members of the magic fraternity for his original sleights with cards.[1]
Borrello had the distinction of being the first magician to appear on television in the Crescent City.[2]
