Joe Riding (1932-2005) was a professional prizefighter who later became a magician.

Riding was a professional prizefighter from age 16 to 20, retiring in 1952. He learned magic reading books such as The Magic of Matt Schulien, a Harry Lorayne memory book, and Scarne on Card Tricks. He busked in hotels doing both cabaret and close-up magic.

He had articles and tricks published in Abracadabra, The Gen and Magigram and also lectured throughout the United Kingdom and made several lecture tours of the United States.

His effect "Only Three-Card Trick with Four Cards" spawned the more popular Sidewalk Shuffle.

He held I.B.M. number 21298, was a member of the Order of Merlin and Ring 25, the British Ring. He also held the degree of M.I.M.C. in The Magic Circle. [1]
