John Cates (fl. 1950s-1970s) toured the United States during the 1950s and 1960s with the spook show "Dr Jekyl and his Weird Show" and in the 1970s as the comedy magician "Professor Feathers".

Biography

In his comedy act, Cates did the standard dove magic but each time instead of having a bird, he would end up with a handful of feathers.

It was reported in September 1976 Genii that his house in Houston, Texas was completely destroyed by fire and most of his two-hour show was lost.

A publicity photo can be seen in the Conjuring Arts' exhibit "The Many Faces of Magic."[1]
