'John Engman served three terms as President of SAM Assembly No. 22 and was the registrar for the SAM Convention in Pasadena in 1980.

Interested in magic as a youngster, he made his debut for his Boy Scout troop at a Christmas party. Magic was put on hold while getting a law degree from UCLA, which received his degree in 1955 and was admitted to the bar. It was not until his son, as a boy scout, also became interested in magic, did he take it back up. He met Les Smith of Owen Magic Supreme and joined S.A.M. Assembly No. 22.

He served on the Board of Management under the National Hall of Fame Committee. served as Vice President of the Hall, since its beginning in 1971. and in 2004, with the passing of John Zweers, the board of Directors has elected Engman as President. [1]
