John Engman (fl. 1970s-1980s) served three terms as President of SAM Assembly No. 22 (Los Angeles) and was the registrar for the SAM Convention in Pasadena in 1980.

Biography

Interested in magic as a youngster, he made his debut for his Boy Scout troop at a Christmas party. Magic was put on hold while getting a law degree from UCLA, which received his degree in 1955 and was admitted to the bar. It was not until his son, as a boy scout, also became interested in magic, did he take it back up. He met Les Smith of Owen Magic Supreme and joined S.A.M. Assembly No. 22.

One of the original founders of the Society of American Magicians Hall of Fame and Musuem, he served as Vice President of the Hall since its beginning in 1971. Then in 2004, with the passing of John Zweers, the board of Directors has elected Engman as President of the Hall.[1]
