Judge Gary Brown has written more than two dozen articles about magicians, spiritualists, gamblers and carnival performers for popular and magicians trade magazines including American Heritage, Invention & Technology, Emmy and Audacity.

Biography

His first book, The Coney Island Fakir, a biography of sideshow magician Al Flosso, appeared in 1997. Brown wrote "Henry Slade And His Slates: From Europe To The Fourth Dimension," which appeared in Gibecière 23, Winter 2017, Volume 12, No. 1. This historical work on the Fourth Dimension led to his selection as the Distinguished Lecturer for the 2018 IBM National Convention in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

"Grand Illusions," a fifty-part series on the history of magic produced for The Discovery Channel and released on DVD, showcased Judge Brown as an expert on the history of magic. Judge Brown has also appeared as a commentator on A&E, NBC-TV, Court TV, Discovery Health and National Public Radio.

Judge Brown has also created a number of effects, including the Viking "Spirit Trumpet," Collector's Workshop "Telekinetic Chess," "Psy-Colony," "Believe" and "Death at Hand," the latter two effects consisting of monte routines inspired by Martin Lewis's "Sidewalk Shuffle." His effect entitled "MyPhone," a paper smartphone capable of taking a photograph, appeared in Vanish Magazine #57 (April 2019).
