Jules Lenier (1929-2007) was a close-up magician, mentalist, hypnotist and magical author.[1] [2][3] Jules was born in the Bronx to Russian immigrants Joseph and Ceceilia Levy (nee Friedman). Around 1949, Jules married his first wife, Irene Wills. Jules became a baby photographer in the Bronx and opened the "Levy Studios" (until then he had been Jules Levy). "Levy Studios" didn't sound artistic enough to him, so he decided to change the name. He toke the "L" in Levy and the letters I-R-E-N-E in the name of his wife. Finally he decided on Lenier. Jules and Irene divorced and he married Betty.

Biography

Lenier was an Associate Editor of Genii in the late 1960s and had regular columns Lenier's Lair and Knights from the Magic Castle. He also ghosted a number of Charlie Miller Magicana columns when Charlie was off on cruise ships.

He edited a weekly magazine called Talisman in the 1970s and helped write Larry Jennings on Card and Coin Handling.[4][5]

His wife, Minnette Ella Gersh Lenier (1945-2011) was a teacher and professional magician who used stage magic to improve students' reading and learning skills.
