Julius Prince Hopkins (1915-1986) was an active member in magic organizations in the Washington DC area.[1]

Biography

Hopkins first became interested in magic at the age of eight when his mother took him to see [[Howard Thurston] and his father gave him a Mysto Magic set for a Christmas present.

His childhood was filled with public appearances as a singer at public and club events as well as on the radio. His first radio performance was April 24, 1922 on station WPM in Washington. D. C. singing ballads and novelty songs.

Hopkins served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II. He served five years, two of them overseas with constant action in five major European campaigns. [2] After his discharge, he was with the Veterans Administration for many years. He joined the Labor Department and retired in 1972.[3]

Hopkins was a frequent contributor to magic magazines (his first ideas appeared in the September 1930 Linking Ring) and authored two books. He compiled both the Linking Ring Metro Parade Number 1 (May 1956) and Number 2 (March 1961).

He was a Past President of SAM Assembly #23, Washington, D.C., member, Past President of I.B.M. Ring 50, Washington, D.C, and a member of the M.A.E.S. and a founding member of the Virginia Magic Society.[4]

Hopkins had a autograph collection of well-known magicians he met personally, starting with Thurston.
