Karl Edler (1877-1945) was a professional ventriloquist and amateur close-up magician.

Biography

Edler, early in his youth, had the desire to become an actor. He began his career as ventriloquist, accompanied by a puppet Nicki. He appeared mainly in Austrian and German vaudeville theaters and was very successful. But, his great passion was micro magic (close-up) which were mainly presented in drawing rooms. He performed mainly effects of the mental category such as ESP or predictions.

Edler settled 1940 in Berlin, Germany, but World War II destroyed Edler’s career. He got an engagement of entertaining troops and on a Norwegian steamer was working on sunk March 3, 1941 after a torpedo hit. Edler was saved and brought into a detention camp where his health worsened. In 1943 he was released in an exchange of prisoners to Germany.

Edler tried a comeback but his health got worse and died March 16, 1945 shortly before the end of WWII age 68 in Baden near Vienna.[1][2]
