Lives of the Conjurors
Lives of the Conjurors by Thomas Frost in 1876 was one of the first books on the general history of magic.
Frost discusses the interesting life of magicians, without giving away any secrets, concentrating on the impact they had on the entertainment world in general.
Frost wrote two other books relating to magic, "Circus Life and Circus Celebrities" ( 1875) and "The Old Showmen and the Old London Fairs" (1881).
Some of the topics covered are: Alexander, Anderson, Automaton Chess Player, Maskelynes, Bacon, Bull, Beaumont, Blitz, Bosco, Cagliostro, Conjuring of the 16th and 17th Century, Davenport Brothers, Fawkes, Ghost Illusion, Goldfish Trick, Robert-Houdin and Herrmann.
