Magical Youths International was formed in 1955 and later became an official program of the I.B.M. in 1999 as the "Magic Youth International".[1][2]

The original MYI was formed by teen-aged magician Robert Watson and Keith Halbasch in Chicago as a correspondence club. As they grew older, Jess James took over helping form "chapters" in several cities.

The magazine PIPS was published by Magic Youths International from January 1956 until December 1965 at roughly monthly intervals.[3]

Two other groups sprung up during this period; the Magic Club of America led by Dale Salwak and the International Club of Magic with Steve Kelley. The friendly rivalry eventually led to a merger of all three clubs into Magic Youth International.

During this transition, their official publication changed to Top Hat.
