Modern Mystic League, Blackburn & District Society of Magicians was founded in 1914.[1]

The first meeting being on February 12th, at 54 Galligreaves Street, Blackburn (the home ofThomas Jennings) The invitation to form a Society of Magicians in Blackburn was from John J. Wareing.

The League has awarded Honorary Vice Presidencies to members and non-members who have made significant contributions to the Society and to the world of magic in general. Those who have been so honoured are the late Paul Daniels,Jack Ledwick, Maurice Howarth,John Tattersall and Trevor Dawson.[2]. The current Honorary Vice President is Debbie McGee. Johnny Hart and Sooty are Honorary Members.

The League is still very active in the East Lancashire area and full details are available on the Society's web site http://www.memel.org.uk
