Prof. Twamley (b.1849-d.1934) was a semi-professional magician, known for his "Smoking Clay Pipes" routine who performed into his eighties.[1]

Biography

On one of the Fakir of Ava's visits to Troy, New York, the home town of Twamley, the fakir advertised for a boy to go with the show. Twamley, at 14 years old, tried to get the consent of his father but was met with a stern refusal. The job went to another boy from Troy of the same age, Harry Kellar.

He eventually moving to Baltimore (at least by 1917) and was active in the magic societies. A member of the National Conjurers Association, Baltimore's Demons Club, SAM and was IBM member No. 85.

In his later years, he billed himself as "America's oldest performing magician", and likely was. Known toward the end of his life as "Uncle Ike", he lived in an old folks home, but would go performing whenever anybody would ask. He performed for members of the Capital Ring 67 in 1933 at the age of 84.[2]
