Punch and Judy is a traditional, popular English puppet show featuring the characters of Punch and his wife Judy. The performance consists of a sequence of short scenes, each depicting an interaction between two characters, most typically the anarchic Punch and one other character. The show is traditionally performed by a single puppeteer, known since Victorian times as a "professor".

Magicians known for performing these shows:

  • Jay Marshall used to perform a Punch and Judy show up and down New York's Fifth Avenue.
  • Al Flosso, in 1931, performed a Punch, Judy, Harpo show in the Marx Brothers classic Monkey Business, although the film was edited to make it seem that the puppets work themselves.
  • Frank Ducrot spent many years touring the Chautauqua circuit performing Punch & Judy, hand shadows, chalk talk, and chapeaugraphy.
