Professor Robert Hellis (b.1835-d.1895) was a photographer, magician, magic teacher and dealer in London.[1]

Biography

Hellis performed in venues such as The Royal Polytechnic Institution and The Brighton Aquarium. He had a photographic studio and magic shop at 13 Silver Street, Notting Hill, London. M. H. Spielmann started conjuring after seeing magic tricks for sale in the window of his shop.[2]

His magic students included Professor Hoffmann and Dr. Holden.

He was a contact for Charlier and created the Hellis Change (found in Modern Magic) around 1876.) [3]

In June, 1891 Hellis was listed as a passenger travelling from Liverpool to New York. His return to England is unknown but in 1895 Hellis died back in Lewisham, England.[4]
