BornMay 25 1951
Detroit, Michigan

Sandra (Sandy) Kort is a professional artist, who has done illustrations for numerous magic books and publications. She is the daughter of well-known magician Milt Kort.

Biography

For several years as a teenager, Sandra and her sister Janet performed as The San Jan Duo. They did kids' shows around Detroit, featuring magic, puppets, and songs with a guitar.[1]

Interested in art since a young age, Sandra attended Wayne State University in Detroit and got her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree after finishing high school. Quickly putting her new skills to good use, she began doing illustrations and layouts for Ron Bauer, a longtime family friend. She also got involved in his children's entertainment company, Mr. Trix Enterprises, designing puppets, sets, and magic props.

In the late 1970s, when Bauer shifted focus from operating Mr. Trix to writing for the emerging video (and then computer) industries, he recruited Sandra as illustrator for several projects, including the best-selling Easy DOS It!. She also illustrated almost all of his magic publications in Genii and The New Tops in the early 1980s.

Sandra also illustrated Stephen Minch's books Spectacle (1990) and KORT: The Magic of Milton Kort (1999). She did several cartoons for Paul Harris' 1983 book, A Close-up Kinda Guy. A full-page cartoon of hers was featured on the first page of the Index to Richard's Almanac, Vol. 1 (1983), and her drawing "The Masks of Wonder" was featured on the cover of S.H. Sharpe's Words on Wonder in 1984.

Over the years, Sandra has done promotional artwork as well, for magicians such as Don Alan, Diana Zimmerman, Leo Behnke, and her father, Milt Kort.

E-GADS

She currently owns and operates E-GADS (Electronic Graphic Art Design Studio). E-GADS is the publisher of the ongoing Ron Bauer Private Studies Series, and Sandra, of course, is the illustrator.
