Are these pages "XXX starting with X" done manually? Isn't there a way to automatically create these with categories?

This is an excellent question, and a sensible alternative. The answer to the first question is "yes, manually." The answer to the second question is "yes, but the formatting of the categories is fixed without involving the SySoP." For example, it is likely preferable for "Close Up Magic Books" to be a category without every page so categorized appearing on that page (because there are so many of them). I.e., showing simply an "index" as now. Further, creating the navigation-between-categories is necessarily a manual exercise. So the manual option, while perhaps a bit cumbersome is:

- very flexible
- a community responsibility

If the community decides that categories are sufficient, these manual pages will start to rot soon enough, and I won't be offended.
