The Art of Deception by Chuck Romano published in 1997.
First published in 1997, sold out it's 550 copies quickly.
The 2008 edition has corrections and a “reflections” section added to the end of each chapter. The reflection sections add new information about many of the artists featured in the book. Recognition of Richard Kaufman's influential as a magic illustrator is described.
There are no tricks in the book, only wonderful story of the art and artists who have captured some facet of the art of magic. The magic lithographs from Scots’s Discoverie of Witchcraft through today. The book covers the early depictions of the cups and balls such as the drawings of Joseph of Ulm and Bruegel, and the painting of Hieronymus Bosch.
