Thomas W. Yost (March 15, 1832 - October 11, 1917), born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was a magic dealer and one of the early pioneers in the manufacturing magical apparatus.
Life
Yost opened for business in 1870 in Philadelphia. Over the course of the shops existence, magicians of the day stopped in including Signor Blitz, Wyman the Wizard, Robert Heller, Wiljalba Frikell and the Herrmann family. He was also very good friends with Wyman the Wizard and Robert Nickle.
Like many magicians of the period, he was also very interested in exposing fraudulent mediums.
Yost’s advertisements first appeared in Mahatma, to declare that he was operating a magic store in Philadelphia and ads appeared regularly in The Sphinx.
In 1910 issue, Yost was one of the first dealer to make and distribute the Okito Coin Box.
In 1914, Yost sold his shop to Clyde W. Powers of New York. A few years later, Powers sold all of the stock at bargain basement prices. The remnants of Yost’s shop were acquired by Frank Ducrot, then owner of the Hornmann Magic Company.
Yost passed away a few years later and was buried in Sellersville, Pennsylvania.
