Biography

He started out as a newspaper man and worked actively for twenty years on the Call-Bulletin in San Francisco.

Dethlefsen became a semi-professional magician in 1929 and shortly before Pearl Harbor he entered the business of selling magical equipment as a side-line.

He served Secretary to the S.A.M. Assembly No. 2 for many years and was a member of the I.B.M. (member no. 7903), Oakland Magic Circle and San Jose Mystic 27. He organized the I.B.M. San Francisco Ring No. 38.[3]

He retired after a severe coronary in the late 1960s[4], although he retained his membership in the Magic Dealers Association. [5] He was also a founding member of the Fellowship of Christian Magicians of Northern California, which later became the national Fellowship of Christian Magicians.
