Wilfred Hubbard (1892-1969) was a successful after-dinner entertainers of the period between the wars, often billed as "Wilfred Hubbard and 52 Assistants".[1]

Biography

Hubbard served as a dispatch rider in World War I and later set up his own hosiery manufacturing business before becoming a full-time professional magician.[2]

He appeared regularly at important functions in London and elsewhere, entertaining royalty on many occasions. Hubbard was a President and life member of the Leicester Magic Circle.[3].

During World War II he entertained troops in Britain, Europe and the Middle East.

He as a mentor to Clifford Townsend.[4]

Hubbard became interested in hypnotism, becoming so successful that for a time he had his own clinic in Harley Street. For health reasons he would move to Malta.[5] He was buried at the Ta’ Braxia Cemetery in Pietà, Malta on May 15, 1969.[6]
