William (Bill) Arenholz (1891-1972), a New York telephone company executive, performed a Chinese novelty act as "Foo Ling Yu" (or "Fu Link Yu").[1]

He became interested in magic in 1932, with Al Baker as a mentor.

Being hearing impaired, due to World War I, he decided to do a pantomime oriental act using a Chinese mask, which was made by Dai Vernon's wife Jean. He appeared on many Society of American Magicians National Shows and served as their National Treasurer.

Russell Swann credited Arenholz with improving the "snake rising out of the basket" trick.[2]

Arenholz is the one that suggested to Dai Vernon that he write a book on magic, which he did as Select Secrets in 1941.[3]
