It's a compilation of some tricks from Nouvelle Magie Blanche Dévoilée written by J.N. Ponsin (1853-1854) and translated by S.H. Sharpe.
It's been said that Sharpe did not know French very well and that some of the material in the English version was mistranslated.
In his preface Mr. Sharpe expressed the opinion that Ponsin's work was the first practical work on conjuring in any language.
Second edition in 1987 by Jeff Busby Magic, Inc.
