Taft (1883-1957), born Albert Sachse in Germany, was a professional circus illusionist starting around 1914.
As a young man he emigrated to the United States and worked there as a sideshow magician. After losing money in the early cinema business, Sachse returned to Berlin. In Germany, he put together an illusion show for the circus.
Taft retired in 1923, giving his stage name to assistant Reinhold Schafer. Schafer would later make become Recha. The name "Taft" was used by a variety of magicians in the 1920s.[1]
