The Sphinx Award began in 1933, awarded by The Directors of The Sphinx for the best published effect in the magazine during that year.
Two silver medals were awarded, one for professional magicians and one for amateurs.[1]
Starting in 1947, the awards were changed to three classifications: One for the best Stage Effect; one for the best Platform Effect; and one for the best Close-up Effect. Certificates of Honorable Mentions were also given out.
They were awarded annually until the magazine ended in 1953.
