Earl Canapp (1923-1989) was a part-time professional magician known for his "The Senile Sorcerer" act in which he portrayed a doddering, bumbling magician.
Biography
He had performed throughout the United States, Canada, and abroad in London and Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
At the Yogi Magic Club's Christmas Show in December, 1967, Canapp introduced his new act, "The World's Oldest Magician."[1]
Canapp started as a ventriloquist and trained as an actor. He appeared with the Ramsey Street Players at Carnegie Hall.
In World War II he served in a Navy Air Unit based in Hawaii. Following his military service, he entered the insurance business.
He was also a member of London's Magic Circle, IBM and M.A.E.S., which he served as secretary and treasurer. The M.A.E.S.'s annual comedy award was named for Canapp.
As a craftsman, he frequently built props for fellow magicians.[2]
