Roland "Roley" Winder was a successful businessman in Leeds, an enthusiastic amateur conjurer, and magic book collector.
He gave his first public performance at the age of fifteen and was also a ventriloquist. In those early days Roland made an acquaintance with Houdini. He was a member of the Yorkshire Magical Club, the Leeds Magical Society and for a quarter of a century the Magic Circle.
Winder helped on the bibliography of rare magic books published by the late Carl W. Jones in 1957.[1]
In 1974 his collection was auctioned off by Sotheby's.
