Zogi (1907-1999), aka Prince Zogi, was a touring magician and booking agent.
Biography
The son of sharecroppers, he began his career by joining a Carnival after working the wheat fields in western Kansas. There in 1926, he met and married his wife, Gladys May Sidebottom, a ticket seller, whose grandfather owned the carnival. [1]
He became known as Prince Zogi and with his wife took their act on the road as the Zogi Variety Review. The act included a levitation, disappearing animals, and Metamorphosis. He became well-known in Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas Panhandle, and southeast Missouri. Later his two daughters, Helen and Lorraine, also joined the act.
At the height of his show's popularity, he took on another job as a booking agent and handled Virgil and Julie.[2]
He moved to Hutchinson, Kansas in 1936. After semi-retiring, he developed a flair for landscaping and professional photography.
In 1994, he was named to the Order of Merlin Excalibur by the International Brotherhood of Magicians for 50 years of support.
His promotional photo can be seen on the Conjuring Arts exhibit "The Many Faces of Magic"[3]
