Ananym

An ananym is a word whose spelling is derived by reversing the spelling of another word. It is therefore a special type of anagram. There is a long history of magicians deriving their stage names or names of sleights by using ananyms.

• Olram (as in Olram Subtlety Olram's Hidden Count Olram File) was used by Ed Marlo
• George Munro was the proprietor of Ornum's.
• Artanis (Joe Sinatra)
• Neil Foster (1920-1988) first starting performing under the name "Retsof" ( but stopped when people erroneously called him "Ratsof" )
• William Mayoh (c.1886-1972) performed a Chinese stage act as Ho-Yam.
• Jules Lenier (1929-2007) used the "Reinel" as a psuedonym in The Talisman.
• Herman L. Weber (1900-1953) performed as "Namreh"
• Walter Gardner (b. 1881) performed as Retlaw Rendrag
• William F. Moore (1885-1959) performed an illusion with a piano as "Onaip"
• E. S. Andrews is a possible candidate for S. W. Erdnase
• P. T. Tibbles was P. T. Selbit
• Ed Solomon used Denomolos
• Jack Avis performed under the stage name Siva which is also the name used for the card sleight he created Siva Count .
• Novrec Turnover was a card sleight by Bruce Cervon
