Gus Burkhart (fl. 1900s), billed as "King of Coins" started as a salesman of trick cards.

Biography

He became so successful he was able to do his own full evening show, and with this he toured the United States and the Southern countries.[1]

Gus (Gustave) Burkhart learned magic while working as a bartender in New York City's Bowery District. He was added to the Barnum & Bailey sideshow and performed as a coin manipulator and comic conjurer. he also spent some time on Bailey's other circus, the Forepaugh & Sells Brothers Consolidated Circus. [2]

In the Feburary 1926 issue of the Linking Ring, we see him inducted as a new member of the IBM as No. 1226 while living in Jamaica, New York. But, by March 1928 they are asking of his whereabouts as his mail had been returned unclaimed.
