Lew Zafran (1915-1997) was a Dallas Ft. Worth area magician known for creating very unique devices.
Biography
Zafran was born to Russian parents Morris and Rose Walderman Zafran in Dallas, Texas. He started learning magic at the age of 10. As a serviceman in the Pacific, he was known as the “Witchdoctor of Guadalcanal.” He entertained fellow soldiers in New Zealand and Hawaii at hospitals and was on a special program for Mrs. Franklin D. Roosevelt during her Pacific tour.[1]
Legend suggests he made a set of Chinese Sticks that work from any angle, one set exists and was given to his son.
Family
Lew's wife was Nina Mae Whitley Zafran (11/11/1907 - 5/13/2009)[2] they were married on 02/14/1937 and they divorced in 1971.[3] They had one child, Robert Zafran.
