George Hawley (1920-2000) was a founding member of MAWNY, the Magicians' Alliance of Western New York, and coordinator of its annual convention for over 50 years.
Biography
Hawley was a graduate of Clarkson College with a degree in Business Administration. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was the owner and operator, for more than 40 years, of Funke & Hawley Motors in Batavia, a car dealership established by his father.
A long-time personal friend of the Gene Gordon, Hawley was noted for his sense of humor and founded several "prankster" groups including the Joker's Chapter of the I.O.O.B.
Hawley was also an avid collector, as well as an accomplished performer of magic. He held I.B.M. number 5865 and was a member of the Order of Merlin Excelsior (60+ years continuous membership). [1]
